The Voice of the Community

Community is everything to any successful game.

Nothing creates better visibility than word of mouth — reviews, social media shares, and user generated content are often the biggest drivers of conversions.

Knowing how to sift through the noise to find out what really matters to players, having a deep understanding of the development process, and bridging the gap between the games and their most loyal fans is where I thrive most.

By having a constant ear to the ground, bringing top player feedback to stakeholders, and maintaining an open dialogue with the community, I have a proven track record of how impactful building a rapport with a solid foundation of trust between the games and their players can be.

The Face of the ip

Players want someone they can relate to — and I’ve discovered that the best way to make fans is by becoming one myself.

Putting a face to the IP and knowing how to speak to the values of any demographic (while also being mindful not to create a parasocial relationship) creates a space for an open dialogue with players to share feedback. It’s a lot easier to share contructive feedback with someone a player can relate to rather than a faceless company.

Humanizing the devs makes an impact on overall community sentiment — they become more patient and understanding with delays.

Whether it’s pre-recorded, live, short or longform videos, I’m incredibly comfortable in front of the camera (Why yes, I was a drama kid – how did you know?).

In addition to being in front of the camera, I’m also well-versed with everything involved behind the camera as well. I have personal and professional experience with the production process of any video type including mapping out structure, scripting, OBS setup, asset requests, and timelines.

discord

Discord is the community hub for any gamer.

News, updates, fellow fans, and custom emojis — gamers that want the most up to date information often look to the official Discord server first and foremost.

Creating a space that is inviting, accessible, and easy to navigate takes more than just putting some channels together and hoping engagement will happen on it’s own.

Hand me the keys to any Discord, personal or professional, and I’ll create a comfy space that community members from all backgrounds will be stoked to be a part of and feel safe to engage in.

A successful Discord server balances the priorities of the developers and their biggest fans, as well as putting a heavy focus on maintaining retention and engagement.

Two questions I ask myself when setting up (or auditing) any server are:

“How can I, as the player, find the information that’s means the most to me, not get bombarded with pings, and feel safe when I engage?”

AND

“How can I, as the developer, make sure that my community is engaging with the server, has access to all the important information, and get their attention without hurting retention with over use of pings?”

community events

Bringing people together is the goal, right?

Whether the goal be to generate more UGC, keeping the IP relevent between major beats, or overall player happiness – planning community initiatives that drive engagement and reward the players for their participation is my bread and butter.

Through years of experience with different demographics and player types, I’ve become a pro at knowing how to appeal to the interests of the core majority of individual communities and keep them engaged — no matter the budget.
